The Complete Guide about Kenyatta University

Are You here wanting to find out something about Kenyatta University? Great! This guide attempts to answer any of the questions you might be having about the university. We will continue expanding this article/write related articles so as to cover this subject fully.

Without further a do, let’s dive into Kenyatta University:

1) KENYATTA UNIVERSITY PORTAL

Kenyatta University is an institution of higher learning embedded with tens of thousands of scholars from Kenya as well as other countries. Addressing such a big number of students in one jancture can be quite a headache given the fac thatall scholars do different courses at different times of theday. For this reason a platform had to be laid for easier communication with the students hence the genesis of the portal also referred to as the student portal. The portal can be accessed from the website, K.U Portal preferably using the latest version of chrome browser for maximum and smooth running.
Each student at the university is provided with a user name(generated from his/her names) and a password which can be modified at will.

The portal serves a number of functions beneficial to a student.

Some of the tasks or information got from the portal are;
Campus information:under this, the course schedule and faculty directory are of reach to the student.

Academics: this is the most visited area in the student portal. Students register their units before the deadline from this area.. They also view their attendance, apply for accomodation withing the university and also get to view their grades from the exams they did. Pretty awesome right?
Transfer of credits: this area comes in handy to the students shifting from one campus to the other, say from a satellite campus in Kitui to the main campus in Kahawa. The grades and credits got from the previous campus are transfered to the system of the new campus via this section.
My profile:change of password, accessing messanges and information of the student is here.
My career:job search in the course the student is undertaking.
Student services:online services are accessble; applications for graduation, refund, transcripts and certificates, semester as well as updating biodata. Evaluation of lecturersis also done in this section.

My housing: information on accomodation in the campus is gotin this section.
Student statement and fees statement are somehow conjoined as they provide the student with the information on their fee balances ar completion..
ICT support. Here, all grievances concerning the smooth runningare addressed by submitting a ticket and waiting for a solution.
Now that pretty much sums it all about the Kenyatta University port/student portal.

2) KENYATTA UNIVERSITY EXAMS.

In almost all institutions around the world if not all, scholars  sit for examinations after being taught for a period of time to evaluate their understanding of the concept. Kenyatta university is not an exception for this rule. Exams are done after each and every session of learning.
First, before one sits for an exam at the university, you have to be a certified student enrolled in a course. Even with the large number of students no intruder can sit for the exam. Trust me as I break it down for you.
A complete exam in the university entails three parts;

  • cat 1(marked out of 30),
  • cat 2(marked out of 30) and
  • the main exam(marked out 70).

The three portions add up to a 100%. The cats are done within the course of the semester while the main exam is done at the end of the semester.

A student must have completed the fees to be able to sit for an exam.

Prior to exams, all students are issued with exam cards from their respective departments. An exam card will show the units a student is taking n will confirm to the invigilator that the student is indeed supposed to sit for the exam.
The timetable is released a couple of weeks to get the students prepared. It takes upto three weeks to complete the whole examination after which the lecturers mark and evaluate the students after which grading is done.
The exams are a stepping stone to the next level in the ladder of higher studies. Those who get the passmark proceed with the consequent units. Well those that do not get to resit for the unit and again sit for the exam. Its simply inescapable.

3) KENYATTA UNIVERSITY BIOTECHNOLOGY

Kenyatta University offers a very wide range of degres courses with a bachelors of science in biotechnology being one of the prestigious courses. In the University, the Course lies under the School of Pure and Applied Sciences which housesmany other courses forming one big family. These other courses are bachelors of science in
⦁ Analytical chemistry with management.
⦁ Industrial vhemistry with management.
⦁ Telecommunication and information technology.
⦁ Biochemistry.
⦁ Forensic science.
⦁ Molecular/cell biology.
⦁ Statistics and pprogramming.
⦁ Biology.
⦁ Coastal and marine resources.
⦁ Animal health and
⦁ Conservation biology.
Having outlined the basic position of biotechnology in the university,
We can now look at an indepth look on it as a course taken by the University’s undergraduates. A major point out is that biotechnology students share much interms of units and lectures with biochemistry students. A fill coursewillbe complete when the student undertakes 53 units programmed to be completed ina duration of four years, two semesters per year. Other three courses top up the number to amount to a total of 56 units. The units are called common units since all other students in the university take them too. A full outline of the units to be covered in the 8 semesters is down below along with their codes as per the schedule for the years 207-2021

After the completion of each unit at the end of the semesters, the grading is done and uploaded in the student portal where a student will be able to see. Some of the units in biotechnology are pre-requisites for the continuation of other units. A smooth running in the course will require orderly completion of each units without any resits/retakes.

Many practicals are carried out in the laboratories throughout the course accompanied by many lectures.
Examinations and Continuous Assessment Cats are crucial as well as presentations in some units and group work becomes a necessity fo excellence.

During the course a lot of practicals are under taken as well as deliverance of many lectures to the undergraduates by their lecturers. Examinations and Continuous Assessment Tests are taken each semester. The results are posted i the students portal where the individual students access them. Group work becomes a necessity since assignments are rendered of course with deadlines for submission. Laboratory reports and the technique to write them becomes crucial to a biotechnology student.

For one to land in this course, some procedure is followed. Form four graduates form the largest number of undergraduates and have to attain a certain grade. Placement is done by another body considering cluster point s from the KCSE which fluctuates within the years herehttps://students.kuccps.net/login/. Joining the class of biotechnology becomes the beginning of a great adventure in the wolrd of science.

4) KENYATTA UNIVERSITY EDUROAM

What is eduroam? What does it entail? How is it useful in an institution? Such are the questions that might be racing in your head right now.

Well, eduroam at Kenyatta University happens to be the wifi connection used by students and members of staff within the big institution.  Everyone enjoys streaming and downloading services from their gadgets just by accessing the routers placed at strategic points. Pretty cool, right?
For starters, before one gains access to the service, some steps are followed strategically by the ICT department. When one is enrolled into the university, their details are fed into the computer systems so that they are recognized by the institution. Everything is digital here pal. After wards, a cooporate email with the domain @students.ku.ac.ke is created for each student. The email keeps the student in touch with some major activities going on in the university like invitations to graduations. The username mostly comprises of the two sir names of the student.
Once this is completed, every student receives a mail with their eduraom credentials. When these details come through, it feels like a gift presentation since you all know the goodies that wifi comes with 😜. The credentials usually consist of a username and a password that is umique to every student.
With that in place, its time to connect and enjoy. The routers are places around the school in lecture halls, the library, the mess, administration block and offices. Since the buildings are just too many and well distributed with the school area, there exists just as many routers as can be needed.
The link speed goes very high up to 65mbps with close proximity to the router. The router also supports these high speed even with hundreds of users connected. Its all paradise in the world of internet when in kenyatta university.

Worries of having insufficient data bundles becomes a thing of the past, thanks to eduroam.
